Armada Mach 8 with latest KitKat firmare & Code Red Launcher preinstalled. First impressions.

Here you have a simple tutorial on how to install the newest firmware on Armada Mach 8 Android TV Box via SD Card method.

Next, the box will then automatically reboot, and start with the new firmware. You’ll then go through a wizard to select your language (between the only three available: simplified Chinese, English, or traditional Chinese), adjust the screen size, and configure the network (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).

The 'Setting' menu gives you access to the settings shown in the same Metro-style with four sub menus: Network, Display, Advanced and Other. The Network settings allow you to select Ethernet or Wi-Fi. The Display settings options: HDMI auto-detection resolution, HDMI output mode, hide or show the status bar, adjust the display position and screensaver. The Advanced menu will let you start Miracast, enable the software Remote control, adjust CEC control, set the screen orientation, and select digital audio output (PCM, SPDIF pass-through, HDMI pass-through). The Other button will give some details about the Android version (4.4.2) and kernel version (3.10.33). There’s also an OTA System Update menu. You can access the standard Android settings by going through Setting->Other->More Settings.

How to easily update Android firmware from SD Card on Armada Mach 8 TV Box

This is a simple tutorial on how to easily update Android firmware from SD Card on Armada Mach 8 TV Box with Amlogic S802 CPU via micro SD card method.

Instructions 
1. Download the latest firmware with Code Red Launcher from here.
2. Extract all the files in the zip to a freshly formatted SD Card.
3. Make sure the power IS NOT connected and Insert the SD Card in the TV Box
4. In the back of the device, Locate the A/V port and insert a tooth pick or something none conductive into the hole. You should feel a button being pressed. 
5. Press and hold the Button in the A/V hole while plugging in the power. Keep holding the button for 10 seconds
6. If you did the steps correctly you should see an green Android robot with a progress bar below. Your box is now updating. DO NOT TURN OFF THE POWER OR TOUCH THE BOX!
7. When the update is completed your box will automatically reboot on it's own. The first boot will take some time so be patience

Armada Mach 8 First Impressions and Antutu Benchmarks

As I told you here, I was looking for testing the new Mach 8 Amlogic S802 device from Armada. 

Next, watch the first impressions about the new UI launcher, with big tiles, and the experience on Android KitKat 4.4.2.



Firmware tested: latest stock Android KitKat 4.4.2
Kernel version: 3.10.33
Build number: KOT49H.2014.08.11 test-keys
Firmware is pre-rooted. 


In Antutu Benchmark 5.1 Armada Mach 8 achieves a good score, about 30.000 points.

In Antutu Video Tester 2.2 Armada Mach 8 TV Box scores 560 points. Amazingly, it played smoothly almost all video file types, except only 3. This is only a firmware issue, a next firmware update will fix this aspect.
