TAIWAN, Hsinchu– June 1, 2015 – MediaTek, a leader in power-efficient, highly-integrated IoT (Internet of Things) technologies, today announces the launch of the MT7623 and MT7683,  premium Quad-core CA7 platforms that can support 4x4 11ac retail and broadband routers, IoT gateway, WiFi hotspots, and media routers using Linux, OpenWrt to ensure seamless connection and enhanced user experience across multiple platforms. The MT7623 and MT7683 also support the latest in security features for a fast, secure wireless experience. They will be available in Q3, 2015 and expected in home control solutions by late 2015.

The MT7623 and MT7683 support many major IoT standards and are the world’s first gateways to allow IoT devices with different standards to work together within smart homes. The enabled smart-home gateways allow for the interworking of OIC and ARM mBed devices via pre-Thread to enable the interoperability among different IoT standards, facilitating easy communication of all IoT devices. The MT7623 and MT7683 will work seamlessly with the MT7687, which is MediaTek’s first ARM Cortex M4 IoT WiFi SoC with an enhanced security engine. MediaTek is working with leading security software companies, such as TrendMicro, to offer comprehensive security management for all IoT devices, from gateways to peripheral devices. This comprehensive security approach can mitigate security threats and privacy attacks that have become a significant concern with the increasing number of connected IoT devices.

“Trend Micro is committed to protecting users from cyber threats by providing comprehensive security on all IoT devices,” said Terence Liu, Vice President, Network Threat Defense Technology Group, Trend Micro. “We look forward to working with MediaTek as they build their leadership in the IoT ecosystem, particularly around secure user experiences.”

The MT7623 and MT7683 support content in numerous ways and from various sources: audio and visual content via cable or Bluetooth; content from wearable devices via BLE; content from guest mobile devices via WiFi; plus, WiFi and Bluetooth connections through tap-and-connect via NFC. They can also serve as a central hub for home appliances to ensure a complete solution for the connected home. A supported device can help to control everything from home security to lighting to temperature controls. Whether for commercial or home support, the MT7623 can deliver up to 2Gbps broadband service as well as the high throughput that is required by smart phones at home. The MT7683 features a world’s-first AP router with a Mali 450 GPU and HDMI/MIPI for displaying the status of connected IoT devices via a TV or panel.

The new MediaTek gateway comes in two configurations, the MT7623 and the MT7683, both with rich interface extensions. The MT7623, together with the MT7615 (the MT7615 is a 4x4 11ac chip that supports MU-MIMO, BW160, and internal FEM), is designed for premium 4x4 11ac home and business routers; and, the MT7683 is designed for IoT gateways and media routers.
